Regional Weed Strategies
 

Project Description: Three regional weed management strategies have been prepared for a more strategic, coordinated, and co-operative approach to weed management.

Type of Activity: Planning

Timing: May 2004 – May 2005 and now being implemented

Region: Each region has their own Strategy

Priorities addressed through these projects:
North - addressing major weed threats to biodiversity, coordinating resources throughout the Northern region for best efficiency and effectiveness by all weed managers.

South

Cradle Coast - Weeds, pests and disease

Partners: Natural Heritage Trust, State and local governments, industry, regional community, NRM bodies, Greening Australia (in the Cradle Coast region)

Form of Investment: Financial contributions and in-kind in the form of technical advice and input from all involved.

Achievements:

  • Existing weed strategies and plans across different levels of government and geographical areas have been integrated.
  • Exhaustive consultation with members of industry, local and state government, community and other stakeholders to prepare the draft and then on the draft
  • Weed management gaps and weed priorities have been identified
  • Clear actions to address priorities and issues for weed management in each region.
  • A framework to coordinate weed control efforts
