Managed by Agricultural Resource Management.

Timing:

May 2006 to April 2007

Priorities addressed through this project:
Accelerated soil erosion

Soil health decline

Water quality decline

Unsustainable water use

Habitat loss or modification

Weeds, pest and disease

Funding:

Funded by the Australian Government.

Cradle Coast NRM contributes $5000 per farm to pay for farm mapping/surveying and on-farm technical advice. The landowner contributes $1000.

Achievements:

All farmers involved believed the project to be of great value, with over half of these extremely interested in the digital mapping of their proprieties using aerial photography and GPS technology.

The main areas of benefit to landowners are:

  • farm maps and GPS surveys
  • soil conservation and land capability
  • business and legal planning
  • water and irrigation
  • environmental management
  • production and quality assurance

A further benefit from this project derived through survey work was the identification of habitats of rare and endangered species and the planning for their improved management.

Many of the framers involved are now keen to follow up the project through ongoing on ground landcare activities.
