Water Quality

What is the Situation with Declining Water Quality in Tasmania?

The water quality in many of Tasmania’s rivers and dams often does not meet the appropriate standards, often making it unsuitable for irrigating many crops, drinking and recreational use.

We need to work together to ensure rural and urban water resources are not degraded to    the point where we cannot drink the water or use it for recreation or irrigation.

What Effects Does this Poor Quality have in Tasmania?

Deteriorating water quality increases the cost of treating water for domestic and commercial use and impacts significantly on irrigation water available. It affects industries as diverse as tourism, fishing and agriculture. Ecologically, poor water quality affects the communities’ health and the variety and abundance of plant, fish and other animal life in our rivers, wetlands and estuaries.
